Jyväskylä Female Choir

Jyväskylä Female Choir (Jyväskylän Naislaulajat) is one of the top female choirs in Finland both in terms of skills and activity. Jyväskylä Female Choir was founded in 1952 and has been conducted by Rita Varonen since 1993. Youthful and energetic, the choir is a musical home for ca. 40 members who share a love of singing and a healthy artistic ambition. We mean business without taking ourselves all that seriously: there's plenty of song and laughter all around!

In 2000, JFC was awarded both silver and bronze medals in the International Choir Competition in Maribor, Slovenia. The choir shared second place in the national Klemetti Competition held in Orivesi, Finland in 2002. In April 2009 Jyväskylä Female Choir was awadred gold certificates in sacred music and female choir categories in the Slovakia Cantat choral contest (in Bratislava, Slovakia). Rita Varonen was also awadred a special prize for conducting!

Jyväskylä Female Choir sings both sacred and secular music and is especially eager to promote fresh contemporary pieces. The choir does not shy away from refresing adventures and has recorded choral parts for the latest album of the gothic/dark metal band Silentium.
